Ships that travel through hyperspace leave an engine trail when hyperspacing out of a system.

When pilots reach level 14, they gain the ability to do another complex scanning function: they can program a ship's scanning computer to plot likely hyperspace exit vectors of ships that have recently passed through a system. Due to the vastness of space, however, there is the possibility that the trail will be impossible to determine, or that readings may prove to be false.

High Mortal pilots, through long study of their craft, are able to manipulate the computer to minimize these false readings.
