The Chiss are a near-human sentient species from the planet Csilla in the Unknown Regions of space. They have blue skin, dark-blue hair, and red eyes that can see slightly into the infrared spectrum. Their body shapes and types match Human ranges, though Chiss tend to be more powerfully built. They also have sharper hearing than Humans.

Xenoanthropologists believe the Chiss may have evolved, over thousands of years, as a genetic divergence from a forgotten Human colony. As Csilla entered an ice age, the Chiss moved underground, and the glacial minerals eventually altered the Chiss genetic baseline into the modern-day Chiss species.

The Chiss government is known as the Chiss Ascendency, which rules over 28 major colony worlds within Chiss space. Their military is known as the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force.

Because they live near the edges of the known universe, they rarely come into contact with other races. When they do, they usually communicate using the Sy Bisti trade language. Very little is known about Chiss culture and history.

Chiss characters benefit from both uncanny insight and well-rounded studies. This enables them to be more adept with skills that aren't their primary focus.
